HALF ASIAN + Amy The CODA

Join us at Olds Town Square on Saturday September 24th for an evening of live music by HALF/ASIAN with Amy the CODA, with a Pop Up Market + Social.  Coffee/Kombucha/Elixirs available for purchase.

HALF/ASIAN is a mixed race (Cantonese/British) musician making retro-synth pop on an 80's synth and Amy is a Child Of Deaf Adult singing the lyrics in english and sign language. 

Amy grew up in Olds and is excited to have another hometown event. Amy will be setting up a pop-up shop featuring original art cards, art prints, silk-screened clothing, pom pom garlands, embroideries, and more! 

Amy's mother who taught her the signed language she uses on stage is also an artisan and will be selling her widely adored handmade crocheted stuffed animals. 

What to expect from HALF/ASIAN with Amy the CODA 

HALF/ASIAN (Ian Griffiths) uses a synthesizer from the 1980's purchased at Value Village to create the music behind the lyrics which are performed by both Ian and Amy. 

The music is often upbeat and the lyricism ranges from poignant storytelling to fractured poetry. The content of their songs touches on topics of joy, heartbreak, friendship, and grief. 

The incorporation of sign language in their performance allows hearing audience members to experience music being enhanced by the language of the deaf. For Deaf or hard-of-hearing audience members it opens up the lyrics and stories behind the songs making it a more accessible and fully immersive experience.
